America: History and Life with Full Text “is the definitive index of literature covering the history and culture of the United States and Canada, from prehistory to the present. With indexing for 1,700 journals from 1964 to present, this database is without question the most important bibliographic reference tool for students and scholars of U.S. and Canadian history.”

Historical Abstracts with Full Text “is an exceptional resource that covers the history of the world (excluding the United States and Canada) from 1450 to the present, including world history, military history, women’s history, history of education, and much more.”

Books Sandwiched In – November 19, 2009

Please join us Thursday, November 19, for “Books Sandwiched In.” Now in its 18th season!

Good books make great gifts.  Jane Sharpe, McDaniel College Associate Librarian, will take the guesswork out of finding the best books to give this holiday season. Her forum, “Books Sandwiched In,” will be held from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 19, in McDaniel Lounge.

The event is free and open to the public. Participants are invited to bring a bag lunch.  Beverages and snacks will be provided.

The one-hour session will cover as many as 25 books, including fiction and non-fiction for children and adults, a cookbook, biography, and picture books.

“I try to have something for everybody,” Sharpe said.  “I approach it as though I’m taking the list of people I would buy for, and select books that I would pick for them.”

“Books Sandwiched In” is jointly sponsored by the Hoover Library, McDaniel’s Communications and Marketing Office, and Locust Books of Westminster.

For more information, contact Debbie in the Hoover Library at extension 2281.

Access to Full-Text Articles

Due to a system upgrade, full-text articles from the Library’s databases may not be available on October 24. The upgrade is scheduled to start 11am and last until approximately 6pm.

The “360 Link – click here for full-text availability” function  will not be working during this time. This means that some linking options to full-text articles will be inaccessible, and you will not be able to search by journal name.  We are sorry for any inconvenience.

National Library Week April 13-18, 2009

Come into Hoover Library to celebrate National Library Week (yes, we do have our own week because libraries are that important!) We  have cookies, lemonade (which I hear on good authority is actually quite good),  snacks, and a used book sale, 50¢ a book. Pretty hard to pass up! And, there is, of course, the library itself with over 200,000 volumes of intellect and intrigue.
