Books Sandwiched In – November 19, 2009

Please join us Thursday, November 19, for “Books Sandwiched In.” Now in its 18th season!

Good books make great gifts.  Jane Sharpe, McDaniel College Associate Librarian, will take the guesswork out of finding the best books to give this holiday season. Her forum, “Books Sandwiched In,” will be held from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 19, in McDaniel Lounge.

The event is free and open to the public. Participants are invited to bring a bag lunch.  Beverages and snacks will be provided.

The one-hour session will cover as many as 25 books, including fiction and non-fiction for children and adults, a cookbook, biography, and picture books.

“I try to have something for everybody,” Sharpe said.  “I approach it as though I’m taking the list of people I would buy for, and select books that I would pick for them.”

“Books Sandwiched In” is jointly sponsored by the Hoover Library, McDaniel’s Communications and Marketing Office, and Locust Books of Westminster.

For more information, contact Debbie in the Hoover Library at extension 2281.

Access to Full-Text Articles

Due to a system upgrade, full-text articles from the Library’s databases may not be available on October 24. The upgrade is scheduled to start 11am and last until approximately 6pm.

The “360 Link – click here for full-text availability” function  will not be working during this time. This means that some linking options to full-text articles will be inaccessible, and you will not be able to search by journal name.  We are sorry for any inconvenience.

National Library Week April 13-18, 2009

Come into Hoover Library to celebrate National Library Week (yes, we do have our own week because libraries are that important!) We  have cookies, lemonade (which I hear on good authority is actually quite good),  snacks, and a used book sale, 50¢ a book. Pretty hard to pass up! And, there is, of course, the library itself with over 200,000 volumes of intellect and intrigue.

Welcome to Hoover Library’s New Blog!

Welcome to Hoover Library! We have been working to create a new blog to provide information to the McDaniel College Community, and anyone else that’s interested! We welcome your feedback and comments!

So, what’s in this new blog?

We have tried to create something that will be interesting & fun, but also informative. We have a number of features that may be of interest to our users.

On our main page we will be featuring posts from different library staff on a range of topics, everything from innovations in the library world to research tips to new services and resources.

We have also created a page called New Resources List where we will list all of the new resources we have acquired. This page will be updated monthly so users can see what new books, DVDs, and CDs we have added to the collection.

Another new feature is a page called Did You Know? which will feature interesting facts about library services and resources, and well, just about everything under the sun! We will be updating this page frequently, so check back often!

We are also providing a place for library users to ask Your Questions that we will try to answer. They can be questions related to anything in the world, although our area of expertise is the library, of course, so our best answers will probably be related to the library!

Finally, we are providing a page with information About Us, and another feature that will allow users to Meet Our Student Workers where we will feature profiles on student workers.

We hope you like the new blog and if you have any ideas or topics you want explored let us know!
